Zac’s Alphabet

Thanks to Mums Write! Facebook member, Pippa Heggie, for writing in about her home grown Alphabet Book:

I’ve been making an alphabet / numbers / colours book with my 3 year old. We found some very tactile sticky letters in a craft shop so he can trace the shape of capital and little letters with his finger as though writing them. We put one to a page in a spiral bound book and have cut out and stuck in photos of friends, family and places we’ve been for the capital letters and pictures from magazines for little letters. Each item in the collage is then labelled to build up a very personal dictionary. Similarly we cut out different examples of numbers to illustrate that type scripts can be very different but the number stays the same. He thinks its a fun thing to do to look for things to stick in from the weekend papers and I get the chance to skim read at the same time, win win!

I’m now keeping my eye out for tactile letters in shops and looking forward to giving this a go with my toddler in a few years!

Have you created books with the children in your life?  Please contact Mums Write! or comment below, as I’d love to hear about what other parents & fellow travellers are doing.
